CompressX 1.18: Compress PDFs Your Way

In celebration of the Lunar New Year, we’re thrilled to announce our first major update of 2025. This release introduces powerful PDF compression capabilities alongside several meaningful improvements to enhance your workflow.

📄 PDF Compression with Flexible Quality Options

We’ve added comprehensive PDF compression functionality, powered by Ghostscript. You can now compress PDF files using four quality presets to match your specific needs:

  • Best: For premium output quality
  • High: For excellent compression while maintaining high fidelity
  • Balanced: For optimal file size reduction with good quality
  • Low: For maximum compression when file size is critical

⚡️ Performance Enhancements

  • We’ve improved the compression workflow for multiple files. You’ll now see results in real-time as each file completes processing, allowing you to track progress more effectively.

  • We’ve also added a Confetti effect test button for those who enjoy celebrating their compression victories!

🛠️ Bug Fixes and Stability Improvements

  • Eliminated the "bad CPU type in executable" error that some users encountered
  • Fixed background video playback issues
  • Resolved compression failures for videos containing audio tracks

📝 Installation Notes

  • Homebrew users will receive Ghostscript automatically with this update
  • For non-Homebrew users, please refer to our installation guide for detailed Ghostscript setup instructions.

To update the app, go to CompressX → Check for updates... or click Check for Updates in the Settings window.
